VENUE: Phelan Library
This series of conversations is inspired by James Duval Phelan’s participation in the San Francisco-based Chit-Chat Club. Founded in 1874, members met monthly for dinner followed by a presentation and discussion. These talks will explore key topics central to Montalvo’s ongoing mission and plans for the future.
Sustaining Landscapes
Montalvo’s Garden Curator, Delmar McComb, and Director, Lucas Artist Residency Programs, Kelly Sicat, discuss the complex challenges and opportunities involved in managing and cultivating Montalvo’s grounds. This talk will explore the relationships and tensions involved in preserving historic landscapes and developing sustainable gardening practices, as well the unique possibilities for integrating contemporary art and social practice into the natural environment at Montalvo.
