Banish the Winter Blues
with the Sounds of Hawaii

George Kahumoku Jr. brings the spirit of aloha to the Montalvo Carriage House on March 11
|
This spring, Montalvo helps you cast off the chill of winter with concerts by two masters of the sun-drenched Hawaiian sound: Willie K and George Kahumoku, Jr. Not surprisingly, in frosty January there is quite an appetite for island musical culture: Willie K's performance has already sold out, and tickets for Kahumoku's show are selling quickly. 2012 Grammy-nominee George Kahumoku, Jr. has been called "Hawaii's Renaissance Man": he is a master slack key guitarist and songwriter, who recently contributed to the soundtrack of the 2011 Golden Globe-winning film The Descendants. That album has been hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "one of the more compelling collections of Hawaiian music in recent memory."
For his concert at Montalvo on Sunday, March 11 at 7:30pm, he will be accompanied by an ensemble of similarly distinguished Hawaiian master musicians Dennis Kamakahi, Uncle Richard Ho'opi'l, and Bobby Ingano. Click here to purchase tickets online. Legendary Willie K is known in many circles as the "Hawaiian Jimi Hendrix." have been featured on albums by such rock, soul, and country greats as Prince, Santana, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, and Bonnie Rait. Though his concert on Friday, February 10 at 8pm is sold out, tickets remain for many upcoming concerts at the Carriage House Theater. Space may be reserved by calling the Montalvo Box Office at 408-961-5858, Monday through Friday, from 10am to 4pm.
